Breakfast Spots for Your Next Road Trip

One of the most exciting parts about a road trip is discovering new places and people. But have you considered that where you select to eat may be just as important as figuring out where you will take your next trip? After taking a few journeys, I have decided that where I chow down has a huge impact on my experience. Check out three of my breakfast recommendations for your next road trip!

 Holler & Dash

Celebration, Florida

As my bae-cation to Tampa, Florida was coming to an end, my boyfriend and I decided to try one, final restaurant to top off our experience! Eager to discover a great breakfast spot, we trusted the online reviews and headed towards Holler & Dash.

Holler and Dash is the perfect spot for any one who loves biscuits and isn't afraid to try new recipes! They challenge the status quo of what a chicken biscuit is supposed to taste like, which is why their menu is like no other.

There was “Something About This Biscuit” that I found intriguing. The Kickback Chicken consisted of a fluffy biscuit, topped with very unhealthy, yet well-seasoned fried chicken, goat cheese, green onions, and was drizzled with "sweet pepper jelly w/ a kick". Having eaten the Kickback Chicken, I now realize how big of an impact green onions can have on a sandwich. This sandwich was by far one of the most delectable chicken biscuits I have ever tasted! Oh, and the tater tots were good, too! (I devoured this sandwich prior to committing to cut chicken out of my diet.)

This is how we roll. This is how we biscuit.

Handsome Biscuit

Norfolk, Virginia

Two months later, we made a stop at Handsome Biscuit to see what all the fuss was about! I ordered the “Shorty Goes North” w/o bacon and a side of hash brown crisp. I was dumbfounded when I asked for ketchup because oddly enough, Handsome Biscuit does not serve ketchup. However, they do serve their house-made Lupo hot sauce. I poured that sauce (y’all know I love my sauce) on my hash browns and BAM—we were in business!

The hash browns were cooked with sautéed onions and had the right amount of crisp. As for the biscuit… (insert drooling emoji). The “Shorty Goes North” was a fluffy sweet potato biscuit topped with egg and cheese, arugula, and drizzled with house-made maple mustard dressing. Who could have guessed a maple and mustard combination would taste so good?!

After washing my meal down with OJ, I could not stop talking about that sweet potato biscuit. I probably mentioned it at least five more times on the way back home lol. It’s a good thing I do not live in Norfolk, Virginia or else I am sure I would probably stop by this place every Saturday morning. (Chill, I said Saturday mornings, not every morning and yes, that’s shots to you Starbucks fanatics lol!)

Tips for Dining

  1. Handsome Biscuit does NOT accept reservations.

  2. Handsome Biscuit does NOT have a telephone.

  3. Handsome Biscuit has ONE vegetarian/vegan option and an alternative for gluten free biscuits.

*In my opinion, these three facts put it in perspective just how bumpin’ this place really is. No telephone?!

Scrambled Southern Diner

Greensboro, North Carolina

In Greensboro, NC, one of the most popular, local restaurants is Scrambled Southern Diner. Unlike the aforementioned eateries, Scrambled is one of a kind and the owners have yet to franchise their business. Having understood the importance of supporting local business, like their own, they also feature products from local and statewide farmers.

Scrambled Southern Diner offers a multitude of plates, including waffles, platters, omelets, and more! Based on my last post, you know I have a love for eggs benedict recipes! Therefore, the Crab Cake Benedict Row is the dish that caught my eye.

Stacked on top of an english muffin, the crab patty was topped with a poached egg, Sherry fondue, spinach, and tomato hollandaise. I noticed that the patty had substance, which I have found to be rare. In fact, it was so thick that I was not able to eat both halves of the sandwich. So, I enjoyed the other half as a snack, later!

No matter what city or state you end up in, on your next road trip, hopefully you manage to stop by you one of these three! Drop a comment of your favorite or must-try breakfast spot. Perhaps we have experienced a similar place or I can make a stop there soon!
